64, Falmouth, died Thursday, November 28, 2013, in Toronto General Hospital, where she had received a double lung transplant in April.Hughena was a wonderful caring person who will be tremendously missed by her family and friends. Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Eva (MacKinnon) MacKinnon. Hughena was a teacher, a developmental services worker, and a foster parent. After teaching, and then raising her family, she had worked at Regional Residential Services Society until her health deteriorated. She was an active member of the Juniper Grove United Church.Surviving are her husband of 40 years Dennis, Falmouth; her daughter, Jody, Lower Sackville; and her son, Aaron, Edmonton; her daughter-in-law, Myrlene; her grandchildren, Alec (Katherine), Nathaniel, Elonna, and her precious little boy, Alton; sisters, Jenny Simpson, Orangedale, Elaine MacKinnon, Callander, ON; her brother, Donald John (Anne), Ashfield; her mother-in-law, Una Skelhorne; sister-in-law, Connie McKinnon (Bruce), brothers-in-law, Fred Skelhorne, Dwaine Skelhorne (Joanne) and numerous nieces, nephews, and foster children who were such a part of the family. She was predeceased by her sister, Freda Waters, and her father-in-law, Bob Skelhorne (November 26, 2013).A special thank you to Hughena's good friend, Betty Mossman, Guelph, ON, who was so helpful to Dennis and Hughena during their time in Ontario.Hughena also had a wonderful extended family in Prince Edward Island where she and Dennis and their family spent so many happy days. Thanks also to her many friends who sent cards and notes and went to Toronto to visit her.Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 5, in DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). The funeral service will be held at Juniper Grove United Church, 269 Town Road, Falmouth at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 6, with Rev. Heather MacDougall officiating. Burial at a later date in the Stewartdale Cemetery, Whycocomagh. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Lung Association (www.lung.ca).
