I'm so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. She was a gentle, kind soul and will be missed greatly. How strange that she passed away only a little over a week after Marg Lorencovich's passing. Chris Corston posted a condolence
Dear Pope family Please accept my sincerest condolences on the death of Isabel. I got to know her through my parents, John and Norah Corston, who were friends of Bill and Isabel for many years. It was on a couple of the trips that Bill and my Dad led in the 1980s that I got to know her a bit more. Although, after a long life like Isabel's, the coming of death can't be a surprise, it is always a shock. I hope you will take comfort in the many good memories she leaves with you. In deepest sympathy for your loss. Chris Corston

Dear Janet & Doug I was very sad to read that your mother has passed away. From my days at the Atlantic Publisher Association I have fond memories of your Mom and Dad. The obituary captured the essence of them both. They also had an awesome wit. Some of Robert's paintings (on loan from the AGNS) hang in the NDP Caucus Office. It always reminded me of those by-gone days. Our world was blessed to have them all amongst us. In sincere sympathy - Joanne
NSCAD University posted a condolence
To the Pope family, I note with sadness the passing of your mother and grandmother Isabel Pope. Doug Pope, Isabel's son, gave us a glimpse of Isabel and Bill's life when he spoke to a gathering at NSCAD in the Anna Leonowens Gallery not long ago. Doug talked of his parents' transformation, how they loaded up a van with paintings by their son Robert, and travelled across the country and further, talking about what those paintings expressed about illness and healing. They witnessed for themselves the incredible power of art and it changed their lives. Bill and Isabel Pope's legacy lives on at NSCAD, in the many scholarships offered through the Robert Pope Foundation and in the newly established Bill and Isabel Pope Artist's Residency at NSCAD, allowing young artists concentrated time and a studio space to further develop their artistic practice. The residencies are important not only to the artists lucky enough to be chosen for them, but for the NSCAD students they come in contact with. At NSCAD, we are so grateful for the generosity and kindness of Isabel Pope. She was truly inspirational. Kind regards, Dr. Dan O'Brien President, NSCAD University

Janet, I read that your mother had passed at 93 at home. As we ponder all this, as we did last I really talked with you, about caring for parents, its joys and trials; In the end a good job is done and you are now on the front line with an undetermined amount of time to live life to the fullest. I know you will and I hope our paths cross sometimes. - Andrea

We extend our sympathy on the death of your mother. We remember well the meetings of the Second Mile Society, the special meals your mother prepared, and the discussions that ensued. We were a diverse group of people, but your mother always kept everyone in good spirits and dampened any disputes that might have arisen. Both your mother and your father were very special people who made huge contributions to Nova Scotia. Our best wishes to you and members of your family.

June Creelman posted a condolence
Dear Janet and Doug, All of us in the Creelman family were sorry to hear of the passing of your mom. Even though it has been some years since we've been in touch personally, we still exchanged cards at Christmas, a happy tradition that started when we were young, and always got Christmas gifts from your family. You probably didn't know this, but we were always allowed to open the Pope family gifts on Christmas eve, rather than wait for Christmas morning. We remember all of your family with fondness, and send you our condolences.
