Obituary of Josef Brand

BRAND, Josef - 91, of Halifax, formerly of Mount Uniacke, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Melville Lodge, Halifax. Born in Hausham, Germany, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marianne (Bretschneider) Brand.Josef and his family immigrated from Germany to Pier 21, in Halifax, in 1951. Once arriving in Canada they moved to Montreal where he worked for Fairbank-Morse from 1951-1969 as a national service manager. In 1972 they moved to Mt. Uniacke and he started work for Hobart Canada, where he worked from 1972 until he retired in 1987. Josef enjoyed watching sports, especially the Montreal Canadiens. He was also an avid badminton and crib player.He will be sadly missed by his son, Gordie (Sherry) Brand, Manitouwadge, Ontario; daughter, Marion (Sean) Crosby, Ardoise; grandchildren, Amanda, Nicholas, Thomas and Sable; brother, Anton (Olga) Brand, Montreal, Quebec. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Hildegard Wisemann; brother, Alois Brand.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation, by request. Funeral service will take place Friday, August 9 at 2 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, Rev. Jeffrey White officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Josef may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
