McCully, Leonard Douglas "Len" FCA - 83, of Hantsport, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a brief illness on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Debert, he was the son of the late Sidney and Lillian (Geldart) McCully.Len was a graduate of Mt. Allison Commercial College. He worked at H.R. Doane where he earned his chartered accountant designation. He then went on to work for Minas Basin Pulp and Power Ltd. and Scotia Investments Limited for 40 plus years. Len was Mayor of the Town of Hantsport for nine years. As a dedicated volunteer he served as President and sat on the Board of many companies and organizations. He was a dedicated member of the Hantsport Baptist Church, an honourary firefighter and a member of Poyntz Lodge, for 58 years. Len enjoyed travelling with Buddy and the family in their trailer and upon retirement he and Buddy enjoyed travels to different parts of the world. He was also an avid golfer.He is survived by his wife, the former Doreen "Buddy" Dixon; sons, Michael (Janice Lapierre), Moncton, NB; John (Colleen), Oakfield; daughters, Cathy (Ian) Dunbar, Hantsport; Lynn (Norman) Purdy, Rothesay, NB; Nancy (Max) Butt, Panama; grandchildren, Joel, Shaun and Ashley McCully; Morgan (Kiley) and Christopher Dunbar; Cassandra and Kurtis Butt; Lauren and Ian Purdy; great-grandchildren, Maggie, Jersey and Emilia; sisters, Irene (Aubrey) Gratto, Masstown; Priscilla (Eric) Jennings, Glenholme; Linda (Earl) McCurdy, Lantz; Donna (Brian) Johnston, Falmouth; as well as an aunt, uncle, nephews, nieces, cousins and other extended family. Len was predeceased by brothers, Manning, Michael and Everett; sister, Mae Matthews.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where Poyntz Lodge No. 44, A.F. & A.M., Hantsport, will conduct a Masonic Service at 6 p.m., followed by visitation from 6:30 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 27. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Friday, June 28 in Hantsport Baptist Church, corner of Main and Willow Street, Hantsport,  Rev. Dan Jamer officiating. Private family interment will be held in Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, followed by a reception in the Church Fellowship Hall.
