 CHASE, Dorothy Ella (Maxwell) - 94 of Newport Corner, Hants Co., passed away peacefully, Monday, May 13, 2013, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. She was born to the late William G. and Harriet "Hattie" V. (Swallow) Maxwell, on November 24, 1918 in Upper Sackville, N.S. She married the late Gerald Chase in 1937 and they lived together in Ottawa, Ont. for 42 years, before returning to Nova Scotia in 1982.Dorothy was predeceased by grandsons, Peter and Stephen; sister, Evelyn MacLeod and brothers, Neil, Kenneth and Vincent Maxwell. She is survived by sisters, Mary Little, Berwick and Claire MacFarlane, Middle Sackville. She is also survived by her sons, Barry (Diane), Newport Corner; Royce (Donna), Petawawa, Ont.; Bruce (Pat), Carleton Place, Ont.; Ron, Newport Corner; granddaughters, Sharon (Mike Dort), Dartmouth; Sandra, Newport Corner; Susan (Ross Donald), Dartmouth; Kathryn Paquette, Pembroke Ont.; Karen (Patrick Cummings), Ottawa, Ont; Amber, Lethbridge Alta.; grandsons, Sean, Petawawa, Ont; Christopher, Edmonton Alta.; John, Halifax; Randal, Lethbridge, Alta. Dorothy was known by the name GG to her nine great-grandchildren, Chase and Kathleen Donald; Malcolm and Charlotte Dort; Adam, Emily and Megan Paquette; Lucas Colling and Gabriel Cummings.All her life Dorothy was very creative. Her handiwork can be found in all of the family homes, whether it is an oil painting, a quilt or plants in their gardens which came from her slips and cuttings. The recipes she shared have become family favourites. She loved to travel and had made trips with almost all of the family, at one time or another, to Scotland, England or Ireland. Closer to home she had travelled all around the shores of Nova Scotia, the place she loved most. The family extends many thanks to the wonderful VON nurses, the compassion of Bev Lyttle from Palliative Care and the loving attention of the nurses and doctors of the Hants Community Hospital.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 15, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Wendy Kean officiating. Interment will follow in Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Family flowers only, by request. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or the VON at Hants Community Hospital, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or charity of one’s choice.
