Obituary of David Sydney May

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of David Sydney May, age 83, Cheverie, formerly of Allbrook, England. He passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024 in Windsor, Nova Scotia, Canada.

David was born in Rookwood Maternity Hospital to the late Arthur Alan and Lena Ruth (Miles) May on September 29, 1943. He attended Perins Secondary School in Alresford, UK and then went on to Eastleigh College, UK. He worked as a toolmaker/machinist for a few good companies over the years and his last one where he retired from was a helicopter company in Richmond, BC called H-S Tool & Parts Inc. He enjoyed football, drawing, travelling, photography, building things, carpentry, engineering, gardening, darts, F1, tools and his family.

David embodied the whole meaning of being a “gentleman”. His ability to seem quiet and powerful with his James Bond demeanour; would shine in times of adversity. His love for drawing and photography could be seen all over his house. David was a true artist. He brought that artistic swagger to his engineering side and his toolmaking. He loved figuring how things worked and then how to fix them. He would feed the hundreds of birds they would have at his home every day. When he was young, he would take his sister out on his bike and go to events, even if he didn’t want because he loved his family so much. He will be missed and forever now watching over us.

He is survived by his wife, Mary May, formerly of Birmingham and his sons. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Julie May and his son, Steven May.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There won’t be an official funeral service but the family will have a small ceremony and shall let family and friends know within the next couple weeks. Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, www.novascotiaspca.ca. You can find the “donate” button on the page and make it as a gift in honour of someone (David May).
