Obituary of Dale Wayne Leighton

Please share a memory of Dale to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 70, of Vaughan, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born May 31, 1954 in Windsor, he was a son of the late Norman and Shirley (Slaunwhite) Leighton.

Dale worked at Nova Scotia Textiles and then spent 40 years at the Halifax Shipyard, working as a marine pipefitter, where he made lifelong friendships, especially with Rick Archibald of Dartmouth. Many a tale came out of that friendship and life working at the yard. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, being a diehard Toronto Blue Jays fan and helping out anyone who asked for it. He was well liked by all who met him and much loved by his family.

Dale is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan (Garland); son, Jeff (Tia), Aylesford; grandsons, Austin, Ellershouse and Cameron, Beaverbank.

He will be greatly missed by his sister, Pamela Huck and her husband, Dave, with whom he shared great times and laughs. He thoroughly enjoyed times spent with his sister, Valorie and her husband, Edward Tataryn and the opportunities of flying with Ed.

He is also survived by sister, Pam (Dave) Huck; nephew, Jamie (Christina); great nieces, MacKenzie (Nick Chandler) and Jenna (Jake Hunt); great nephew, Nolan; great-great niece, Miley; niece, Jennifer Kendall; great niece, Charlotte; nephew, Adam Kendall; great nephew, Francis.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Buddy (in infancy) and Tony; sister, Valorie.

Dale battled with frontotemporal dementia for the past five and a half years. His suffering is over. Saying goodbye is the hardest thing.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Dale’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
