A Life Full of Adventure and Love

Age 71, Three Mile Plains. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Myles Roland “Nick” MacDonald, at home, on Monday, September 30, 2024. Nick was born in Windsor, on November 19, 1952, to the late Roland and Phyllis (Leopold) MacDonald.

He came into this world with a bright spirit and a knack for adventure. From his earliest days, his life was filled with colourful stories, mischief and resilience. Whether it was getting lost in his crib as an infant or making his family laugh with his endless pranks, Nick knew how to bring light into the lives of those around him.

As a boy, growing up with three brothers and two sisters, Nick's childhood was marked by joy, curiosity and the occasional mishap. He had a deep love for the outdoors, spending his time brook fishing, climbing trees and getting into harmless trouble. He learned hard work early on, from carrying water to helping with the family farm, always bringing his signature sense of humour along for the ride.

Nick was a man of strength and determination, unafraid of life's bumps and scrapes. Whether surviving a close call with a sharp stick in the woods or rolling his first car, he seemed to navigate life's dangers with ease and a smile. His legendary adventures continued through his teen years and beyond, from daring pranks on his family to his encounters with wildlife in the woods.

He married the love of his life, Janet, in 1971 and together they built a life filled with love, laughter and family. Their four children, Melanie, Alice, Joe and Deanna, were the centre of their world and he took great pride in expanding their home and providing a comfortable life for them. The couple proudly celebrated 52 years of marriage.

Nick's career was marked by hard work and dedication. Whether working in a plaster mill, operating heavy machinery or driving trucks across the Maritimes for GS Concrete/Shaw’s for 43 years, he was never afraid to get his hands dirty. Over the course of his career, he drove more than two million miles and faced countless adventures on the road. Through it all, he remained humble, taking everything in stride and with a healthy dose of humour.

Even in his later years, battling cancer twice, Nick never lost his spirit. He continued to share his stories through writing and drawing after losing his voice to the disease, ensuring his family knew the tales that shaped his life. He brought joy to those around him, including a few of his favorite homecare workers, Kattie and Darcy, who became like family, enduring his playful pranks and antics. He is reunited with his beloved Janet, who passed away in April 2023. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory lives on in the countless stories, lessons and adventures he shared with those who were lucky enough to know him.

He leaves behind his four children, Melanie (Jamie), Three Mile Plains; Alice, New Minas; Joe (Dallas), Three Mile Plains and Deanna (Barry) Sherman, Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Bailey, Nathan, Jessie, Sam, AJ and Jaxton; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Nickolas and Maera; brothers, Clark, Martock and Roger (Linda), Three Mile Plains; sister, Wanda, Three Mile Plains.

Besides his parents, Nick was predeceased by his wife, Janet-Lee (Lantz); brother, Welsley (Pam); brother-in-law, Jimmy (Wanda) Burns; sister, Paulette (Brian) Moore and nephew, Andy MacDonald.

Rest in peace, a lifetime of fond memories…you’ll never be forgotten.
