Obituary of Roderick Douglas Fletcher

Please share a memory of Roderick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With broken hearts we say "see you later" to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Rod passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by loved ones, at the young age of 72, after an incredible fight with Parkinson’s.

Rod was a plumber for almost 50 years, first with WJ Power Plumbing in Halifax and then establishing his own company with his brother, Stephen, R & S Fletcher Plumbing and Heating.

Rod left behind a family who loved him so deeply. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Debbie; daughters, Shelley (Rob) and Ericka (Jared); son, Kevin (Holly); grandchildren, Justin (Rebecca), Jessie (Shane), Mikaela, Brendan, Bentley and Levi; great-granddaughter, Hazel and brother, Stephen (Valerie). Rod always made it known that family was the most important thing in his life.

Rod is predeceased by his parents, Doug and Pauline (Lowthers) Fletcher; as well as his in-laws, Owen and Esther (Schofield) Armstrong.

Rod loved life, loved his family and loved horses. His greatest passion from a very early age was harnessing up a team of horses, which lead into him and his brother starting “Fletcher’s Family Percherons”. Rod showed percherons for years until the later years when he found joy in hitching up the team for fun with his son or watching his granddaughters in the show ring with their saddle horses.

Rod always enjoyed a good hockey game or soap opera on tv but more often than not, you could find him laid back in the evening with a bag of bbq chips and WWE on the tv.

We, the family, would like to thank the wonderful nurses and doctors at Hants Community Hospital for their dedicated care for Rod.

Rod will be missed by all who knew him. There will be no funeral service at his request, instead we will all just cherish the memories Rod left us with.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Donations in memory of Rod may be made to the Parkinson Society of Nova Scotia, 290 Main Ave Suite 801, Halifax, NS B3M 3V3 or Hants Community Hospital – Palliative Care, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
