Obituary of Joyce Marie Spencer

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our mother and grandmother, Joyce Marie Spencer. She passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024 in the Cardiac Unit, QEII Health Sciences Center, Halifax, at the age of 92. Born on December 25, 1931 in Ellershouse, she was a daughter of the late Chester Arnold and Helen Mildred (Lyttle) Williams.

In her early years Joyce worked for Minas Basin Pulp and Power in Hantsport as a secretary. She did volunteer work within the community spending many years as the United Church Treasurer for Ardoise. She was also a member of the Newport Corner Ladies Aid and Community Club. After raising five children she worked briefly as an LPN at the Windsor Elms in Windsor. She enjoyed square dancing, social dancing, card parties and bowling.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Deb (Joe Jabalee-predeceased), Pam (Chris Best), Wendy and Julia (Mike Foxall); son, Terry; grandchildren, Nicholas and Craig Best, Alisha Foxall (Aurelien Pluche) and Scott Foxall; stepmother, Laura Williams; brothers, Wayne (Marg-predeceased) and Bob (Betty); sister-in-law, Madge Jones; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Douglas Arthur Spencer; brother, Ronnie Williams (Thelma); sister, Gloria Maynard (Basil) and sister-in-law, Roberta Best (Ron).

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the QEII for their compassionate care during the five weeks Mom was in hospital.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 13 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Kevin Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Ellershouse with reception to follow in the Ellershouse Community Hall. In lieu of flowers donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the building fund of the Ardoise Union Church, 181 Lakewood Dr., Brooklyn, NS B0N 2A0.
