Audrey and family, my deepest sympathy to all at this sad time. May God bless each of you with comfort and strength in the days ahead.
I've always appreciated my conversations with Joe wherever our paths crossed over the many years since he and my husband, Fred, taught together at the Vocational School. Joe was a wonderful teacher!
He was a supporter to my and my family after Fred's early death, and we greatly appreciated his help and advice.
Most conversations in the last number of years have been at the grocery store, and usually ended with a good laugh. A blessing in itself!
May you rest in peace, Joe.

Joe Konkovy was truly a ' larger than life man ' in all situations . I first met Joe and Audrey years ago as keenly interested in their daughter Mary who I taught at Dwight Ross School in CFB Greenwood and strong supporters of the School and the Greenwood community especially the Rink where I also met Joe on occasion . Later in his second career while I was the NSTU Provincial Rep for West Hants- Kings I talked with Joe many times after Meetings in their area as like me he was always concerned for the betterment of Students , Teachers , and the Public . For a number of years after my retirement I again often had the pleasure of chatting with Joe at RTO Meetings . I can't remember if I taught Mary's siblings but she left an indelible impression on all she met and was taken far too soon . Our sincere condolences to Audrey , the children and many other Friends and may your precious Memories grant you Peace in the days ahead . Sincerely , Albert & Bonnie Johnson of Middleton .

Dear Audrey and family,
I was one of those folks Joe met at the grocery store or Locker Room (while waiting for you to finish up your exercise class). The stories, his smile and that laugh bring back fond memories. A chance meeting with Joe always brightened my day. He had a true joy in living and a true gift in sharing that joy with others. Hugs to you all.

Audrey and family - Joe was a remarkable man. I say that and I didn’t know all the incredible and adventurous experiences he has had. I knew Joe as a teacher, and then as a retired teacher. Joe did his share of work with the NSTU, attempting to improve learning conditions for students and teaching conditions for staff. He put his heart into everything he did. Despite not knowing him all that well, he always made me feel I was an old friend. His genuine smile, his warm hug, and his confident voice were available to all. A few years ago I broke my foot, and the RTO delivered flowers to me by none other than Joe Koncovy himself! I was honoured! His hug made me feel better than the flowers did. I am grateful to have known Joe as well as I did. My condolences to his entire family. I know his loss will greatly impact all of you, but I know he has left enough love behind to help with that.

So sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He always had such a great smile just like in the photo you posted. Whether it was at staff functions, in the grocery store parking lot, or at RTO functions you could always count on Joe to bring a great story or a chuckle to the conversation. Unfortunately, I am not able to attend the reception for Joe. I'm sure there will be many great memories to be shared. Such a great guy!

Joe was a wonderful family member to joke around with and to whom one could find enrichment in learning about Czech culture and personal experience about his country. Joe was a very down to earth guy who cared about people with a humble heart. As a devoted husband he loved his wife Audrey so very dearly. My Czech friend Radmila had a marvelous time talking with him in the Czech language. Joe was a man with great moral integrity and a real believer in keeping family heritage alive. Joe will be missed so very much.

Growing up with Joey, Julie, Mary, and Margie, big Joe and Audrey were second parents to me. My own father was away for work the majority of the time and Joe came to my families rescue on many occasions. Whether it was to remove a bone that was stuck in our dog’s mouth, or drive me way up the valley to get a part for my broken dirt bike, he was always there to help out. To us kids he was larger than life. I have so many wonderful memories from my teenage years that Joe is a part of. Thank you Joe, and God bless.
