While I'm sure I'd probably met and talked with him prior to it, I didn't really get a good chance to know Don until Patrick and I joined the Hantsport VFD in the early 2000's. He was an amazing guy with a wealth of knowledge to share; if you weren't sure of something, "Just ask Don, to be sure" was something I heard more than a few times down at the firehall.
He was always friendly, patient and didn't judge people because of what they were or where they came from, which can be rare in some tight-knit, small town "clubs"... he just seemed to always be encouraging and want people to be happy doing whatever they were doing. Everyone liked Don.
I'm thankful for the conversations and laughs I was fortunate to have with him both at the hall, during FD-related events and afterward while I worked in town. His passing is a big loss to a little community and he'll be deeply missed, but fondly remembered, by many. Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Please accept my sincere condolences to all the family. I had a many long chats, bear hugs and have two of the wooden trays he made for me. I stopped in a few years ago when driving by and had a little chat in the driveway with Donnie. I always enjoyed myself in the company of Donnie. May he rest in peace and the family cherish him in all your memories.
Sincerely,
Cindy DeMont

Aunt Louise, Sherry, Christine, Amber, Malcolm and Families,
Our hearts are broken with the loss of your Dad and our Uncle Donnie. He was such an influence and special part of my life growing up, spending summer vacations in Hantsport. This larger than life man, the Fire Chief, the oil man, the builder, the mechanic. The kindest person, a dedicated family man and a force in his community. Whether in the truck delivering oil with him, plowing sidewalks in the jeep, boarding a roof with him, working on a truck with him or just sitting on the front porch with him watching him wave at absolutely everyone, I could not spend enough time with him. He teased me, joked with me and taught me so much. I loved him and I will never forget him!

Dear family of Donnie MacNeil, Please accept my sincere condolences of your husband and dad. Donnie was a close friend of my Dad, Joe McGinn, and to our family. Dad and Donnie shared a concern for the betterment of the community in the Town of Hantsport and formed a fast friendship over the years. Donnie always looked for the best in us and we knew if we ever needed anything, he would be there for us. He will be missed by all.

Dearest Louise and all the McNeil Family. Nancy and I send our deepest condolences on the loss of Donnie. His presence was so large along with his influence with everything he put his hands to. His whole life characterizes family, hard work and community and his tireless dedication to these will leave a huge whole for all of us that were benefactors. We will always hold Donnie in high esteem as he along with Harley Harvie, my Dad Orin Levy and many others represented the fuel delivery business with integrity.
I will always remember Donnie and Louise taking the time to join us for special occasions at my parents home just outside of Wolfville. The comradery and mutual respect that Donnie, Harley and Dad shared was easily recognized. We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers as you celebrate the life of this incredible man.

To all of the McNeils - giant hugs. Mr McNeil was larger than life and a special part of our McGinn lives. He was always there for dad whether dropping by the house, or over the radio for public works “9848 Donnie”. We had a long standing Christmas tradition of Donnie picking our family Christmas tree that we would decorate Xmas Eve, then he and Louise come by for a cup of cheer. He welcomed us kids into the home just like family always. Our deepest sympathy. He will be missed.

Dear Amber, Malcolm, and Sherry,
I am so deeply sad for your loss and joyous for your dad's life. I loved your dad deeply, and will always cherish how he found a place for me in his life, and later for our son, and his grandson Noah. Most importantly, I am so fortunate that he gave me Christine, my wife and partner for over 30 years. Your dad's memory will live in me and I will see him everyday in the eyes of Christine.
