Obituary of Frederick Murray Schofield

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Fred, of Ellershouse, a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, on Monday, June 10, 2024 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, at the age of 81, with his loving wife by his side. He was a son of the late Frederick H. “Fred” and Dorothy (Keddy) Schofield.

Fred enjoyed hunting back at his hunting camp as well as spending time with his former classmates. He had many jobs over his lifetime, however, the last 32 years he was a successful business owner with his wife, Margaret, of Crossroads Restaurant in Garlands Crossing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret (Leighton); daughters, Michelle, Cheryl, Patti (Jimmie) Sanford and Colbi-Dawn Kehoe; sons, Tony (Phyllis Connors) and Roland (Jessica); granddaughters, Sarah, Ashley, Kaileyne, Abbi-Jean, Jahnaya, Ella and Kaiah; grandsons, Christopher and Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Paul.

Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by sisters, Marion Schofield and Nina Rogers; brothers, Parker and Lawrence.

Fred’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital for all the wonderful care during his stay.  

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19. A funeral service celebrating Fred’s life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 20 in DeMont Family Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. A private family interment will be held in St. Croix Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Fred be made to a charity of one’s choosing.
