Robert Owen "Mick"  Bowie - 72, Windsor, Hants County, passed away Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, due to complications following surgery. Born May 15, 1940, in Halifax, he was a son of the late Owen and Viola (Shubley) Bowie.In Mick's younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey. Later, he enjoyed snowmobiling with his son, Wade, playing darts, coaching hockey at Brooklyn Arena, and watching baseball at Ste. Croix Baseball Field or the Big Leagues. Mick also enjoyed playing baseball - a lefty first baseman. Just a few years ago, you could see him fishing at Smiley's Lake, Ste. Croix. Mick appreciated his apartment neighbours and their helping hands, namely Bob with his delicious dinners, Barry and his heavy load carrying in and out and Vernon and Emma who welcomed him in for tea and chat.Mick is survived by his son, Wade Bowie (Katherine Dea), Ste. Croix; best friend and former wife, Bev (Mahaney) Bowie (Hugh Shankel), Windsor; brother, Gerald "Bun" Bowie, Ottawa. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his 13 month old daughter, Wanda Elizabeth; sister, Betty (Terry) Atwell.Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert Street, P.O. Box 981, Windsor, NS  B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317). Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013, in Ste. Croix United Church, 5477 Highway 1, Ste. Croix, Reverend Bill Gibson officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Private family interment in Ste. Croix Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Mick's memory to Ste. Croix United Church are welcomed.
