Kevin Crosby,
A legend to the equestrian children who dreamed
of becoming proficient in equine care and equestrian show jumping.
Truly a equestrian family man who had a unique love for horses and equestrian training of horse and rider.
Most remembered for his unique equitation and
fearless show jumping.
Kevin will be missed always remembered as a friend
to the equestrian riders and families. In our thoughts and always in our prayers to God and
to Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit be
blest in Gods power and protection as we live in
faith, of Gods love and mercy. Amen

I have many memories of Kevin going as far back as the 60's and 70's at Lancers, where I first met him. First and foremost I remember his talent and determination. Later in my life three memorable occasions come to mind ...the first when he offered to school my young Thoroughbred mare over some pre-training cross country fences when she'd lost confidence at Redbank Event.....while I sat with our young children,Alex ,Candice and Kevin on a hillside watching him. He quietly gave her the courage to jump around calmly and confidently and would accept nothing but a grateful "thank you" in return. Later when I lost a mare bred to Alamaz ,and her foal, in a delivery gone tragically wrong, he gave me the opportunity to choose a foal so that our daughter,Jackie, would have a children's hunter when she came off our ponies. That horse was our wonderful Allegria (Ellie). When the fires decimated Mineville and threatened our community he showed up,without being asked to, with his truck and trailer just in case we needed help. Under the gruff exterior Kevin had a kind, generous heart that showed itself when it was most needed. Without a doubt, he will be missed. Those memories and the many others which people have shared will hopefully offer you strength when you need it most, Candice,Kevin,Lorraine and family. We send our love and sympathies to all of you,The Merritts.

Lorraine, Candice ad Kevin my sincere condolences
I first met Kevin in our early teen years at the Lancers. Through hot days on parade at the Citadel and cool November Saturday park rides. Oner hill and dale because staying on the path would have been too boring.
Travelling the Maritime show circuit and learning about farming in Falmouth.
Kevin stood up with me at my wedding and I at his.
Life interfered and I ended up in Ontario but managed annual or even semi-annual visits where we played the "you remember" game.
Kevin enjoy the big show ring in the sky and try and behave.
Your friend

We didnt know each other well enough to consider each other as friends, but we were both horse enthusiasts and our paths crossed many times over the past 30 years. I appreciated his keen eye for quality horse flesh and his knowledge of equine genetics, and his always entertaining stories about the local horse community. We will all miss him.

Dear Lorraine, Candice and Kevin,
My deepest sympathies to you all. I was so saddened to hear of the news. I know how important Kevin was in all of your lives and it is so sad he was taken so soon.
He was such a wonderful horseman and a huge icon in our equine community. I always enjoyed chatting with Kevin at the horse shows. He had great stories and most were funny! He always had wonderful words of encouragement for me, especially if I had a bad class.
My heart goes out to you all! He will truly be missed. ❤️

My condolences to Kevin's family. I took riding lessons from Kevin back when Windgate farms first existed. He was an excellent instructor. One of the school horses there named Appy would buck me off going over the jump as he would put his head down as soon as his feet hit the ground. I got bucked off several times by that horse but with Kevin's encouragement I was able to accomplish that jump without getting bucked off. Rest in peace Kevin.

I will always remember Kevin from my junior jumper years in the 1970s right through the adult amateur hunter years. He was the most confident rider I had ever witnessed take to the show ring and had an eye like no other, he never missed a spot. As I think back, it was such an honour to compete with Kevin and watch his rounds to see how it was done right, I learned so much from watching him. Kevin was a mentor to me, and he never even knew it, rest in peace.

As a young teenager, Kevin was larger than life and quite possibly my first idol. I was at a horse show in Windsor, and knew nothing and didn’t have a coach. He took me aside as I was coming out of the ring, and in his gruffly quiet way gave me a couple of pointers. It was one small moment that made a big impact. I’m sure thousands of others were positively influenced by Kevins big heart and incredible talent. My condolences to all who loved him in the sport and life,

The Halifax Lancers community sends you our sincerest condolences. It is a testament to Kevin's character that while he went on to do more with horses than many Lancers ever dream of, he never forgot where it all started. We appreciate that Kevin continued to leave his mark at Lancers through all of the horses he helped land at Lancers. Thank you, Kevin.

So many memories.... I'm always at a loss of words at times like this.
One of my first encounters with Kevin was when Heather Huggard introduced us. Then Kevin came to then Duntulm Stables to check out my horse, Bonne Chance to see if he could help us learn to jump. I mostly ride western and English hack before that. Well, when we arrived Kevin was early and riding my horse in his saddle and someone else's bridle. Oh well, it fit, he said. He test jumped Chance that day and liked him a lot. My husband said "Wow, that guy can ride!"
We successfully went Preliminary jumper that season. I'll never forget how proud he was of us when we left the arena at our first jumping show at Windsor Spring with a clear round and made the jumpoff. I think we finished in 3rd. Jumper classes had lots of entries in those days.
Another grateful moment was when Kevin came to our rescue when my daughter's pony got under the chest bar of the trailer and was panicking. Kevin was instrumental I'm not only my riding, but also my daughter's.
Hard to believe that he is gone.

When I became a member of the Nova Scotia horse community, some 33 years ago, one of the first names I heard was Kevin Crosby. He was a legend who produced some excellent horses and we were lucky to have a Buntespecht baby. But more important we were lucky to meet Candice, Kevin Jr and Mandy and Lorraine. Kevin was so lucky to have you all in his life and he was proud of you all. I am sorry for your loss.

Lorraine and family, please accept my sincere condolences. Kevin was a mentor to many, and he did so much to grow the equestrian sport in Nova Scotia. Buntspecht and In The Mood are his two partners that I remember best, but there were many more. The progeny from Crosby Stables have flourished across the country and beyond. Kevin has left a legacy of excellence and dedication to the sport, outmatched only by the pride he had in his family. Hugs to all.
