Obituary of Clarence Vaughan Thompson
Of Windsor, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth, at age 86. Born in Middleton on February 14, 1938, he was one of four children of the late Clarence and Thelma (Messenger) Thompson.
Always known as Bud, he left Middleton after high school to attend the University of New Brunswick, graduating with a teaching degree. After several years of teaching in Windsor, he eventually joined his father and brother in the family business, Thompson’s Transfer Co. Ltd., known to generations of Nova Scotians, until the sale of the company and his retirement.
For over 50 years, Bud’s family lived on College Road in Windsor. Many will fondly remember them for welcoming kids to the pool in the summers, hosting bridge games in their home and for their open door during the Christmas holidays.
In addition to his lifelong devotion to the Habs and the Red Sox, Bud was especially active in sport and was a decades-long member of the Avon Valley Golf Club. He was also well known at the Windsor Curling Club, winning the NS Senior Mixed and NS Men’s Masters Championships in 1999 and the Maritime Masters Curling Championship in 2000. He was also a longstanding member of the Windsor Gyros and served at the Windsor Baptist Church for several years.
Bud is survived by his son, Dan; grandsons, Theo, Montréal; Joe, Windsor and Will, Halifax; siblings, Graham (Sheila) Thompson, Middleton; Linda Selig and Marie Wilde, both of Perth, ON.
Besides his parents, Bud was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Elizabeth Ann “Betty” and daughter, Shelley.
The family would like to extend their thanks to MacLeod House and to Windsor Elms Village for their attentive care in recent years.
