Age 82, of Windsor, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, where he had resided for the past five years. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he was a son of the late Tommy and Sally (Janes) White, of St. Thomas, Ontario.

One of the last graduates of Waterloo Lutheran University, Barry spent almost 40 years as an elementary school teacher in Elgin and Middlesex Counties. Barry was recognized as an excellent coach of baseball and basketball teams. Most proudly he coached the London Majors of the Intercounty League with Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson Jenkins who became a lifelong friend.

Barry moved to Windsor, Nova Scotia, in 2012 to be with his brother, James White and his family. He was a proud member of the Senators Morning Coffee Club.

Barry loved Dykeland Lodge and the staff and fellow residents. He volunteered for many years as the bingo caller. He will especially miss fellow smokers, Stewart and Brenda. Winston will also miss his daily visits to his uncle and friends.

A mere thank you doesn’t seem adequate to a wonderful staff who made Barry’s last years comfortable and enjoyable. The family is truly thankful!

Barry is survived by his brother, Jim; niece, Jennifer (Ben) Kershaw and their children, Ethan, Kaylee and Aidan; nephew, Andrew (Katie) White and their children, Finley and Clara Janet; nephew, Matthew (Heather) White and their children, Hugh and Hazel.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Details for a future service will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Barry may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
