Obituary of Gerald Edgar Shearer

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 80, of Curry’s Corner, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, with family by his side. Born in Windsor on July 5, 1943, he was a son of the late Edgar Dykens and Minnie Shearer.

Gerald not only was born and raised in Windsor he continued to live out his life there. He worked many years with Nichol’s Contracting in Bedford; a lot of fond memories were made working there as he got to travel a bit, Newfoundland being his favourite. Those who knew him, knew how much he loved hockey and watching his children and grandchildren play the game he loved. His later years were spent working at his sports shop on Gerrish Street, providing all of West Hants with sharp skates.

He is survived by sons, Tim (Tina) and Scott (Natalie) Shearer; daughter, Julie Shearer (Steve Giordani); grandchildren, Dylan (Emily), Laura, Abi (Bailey), Ava, Will, Jack and Matt; great granddaughters, Sadie and Lucy and great grandson, Tucker; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by the love of his life, Sandra (Swinamer) Shearer; brothers, Joe, Cyril and Malcolm Dykens; sisters, Mary Miller, Lois McCulloch, Rita Barker, Doris Arsenault, Barb Pemberton and Evelyn Swinamer.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the paramedics, Logan and Stacy, that came to the house and to the staff at Hants Community Hospital, their care was remarkable.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 14 from 2 – 7 p.m., at Tim and Tina’s home, 1584 Trunk 1 (Evangeline Trail), Falmouth.
