WELL KNOWN HANTS COUNTY LADY PASSES AWAY DANIELS, Ruth Evangeline Age 97. Ruth went to be with the Lord, whom she loved and served on May 31, 2016. Ruth was born in Poplar Grove, the youngest daughter of John Shaw and Eva Blanche (Morris) Shaw. She was predeceased by her husband, John Daniels; sisters, Evelyn (Claire) Lyon, Clara (George) Barkhouse, Annie Louise (John) Ainslie; and brother, Anthony Shaw. She is survived by daughter, Lucy (Victor) Foley; sons, Blaine (Brenda) Daniels and Philip Daniels; grandchildren, Brent (Jodi) Daniels, Colin (Sarah) Daniels, John Daniels and Rachel Daniels; great grandchildren, Chloe Daniels, Caden Daniels, Mira Daniels and Chase Daniels. Also sister-in-law, Beulah Shaw; special niece, Bernice (Ron) McLean, who was like a daughter to her; daughter-in-law, Linda, who was very dear to her; also favourite cousin, Alice Bond and nephew, Bill (Millicent) Daniels. Ruth attended Poplar Grove School, Windsor Academy and graduated from Provincial Normal College in 1939. She taught school in various rural areas in Hants County and kept up life-long friendships with many people from these areas. She married John Daniels in 1944 and lived all her life in Windsor Forks on the family farm and was a valued member of that community. Ruth was a member of Windsor Baptist Church, Martock & Womens Institute, Serving Seven WMS, Martock WMS and Sons of Temperance. She was a charter member of the Windsor Camp of Gideons Auxiliary. She served for three years as Area Representative on the National Executive of Canada. She organized Daniels Bus Tours for over 40 years. She was on the Rural Beautification Committee of Nova Scotia and Hants County for several years. The Womens Institute had a project making quilts for the homeless. Ruth carried on with this project at her home, and the ladies made over 1000 quilts, a great achievement. Ruth and her husband entertained on a large scale in their huge farmhouse and everyone loved going there. They had crokinole parties for over 40 years through the winter months, ten tables set up, followed by a pot luck meal. It was every bit as good as it sounds. Ruth was a very unique person. She looked after invalid relatives, cooked big meals for the hired hands, took in boarders at one time, and raised three children. She could pluck hens, pick apples, split kindling and chase cows right along with the best of them. Ruth had so many wonderful friends who were so kind to her, and the ladies of the community were just like family to her. She had a profound love for other people. Her faith reached out to everyone and her life was a testimony that she was God's servant. She loved making new friends and cherished the fellowships of old acquaintances. Of all the various groups she was part of, she held an active office in all of them, worked diligently and encouraged others to get involved. It was a privilege, pleasure and honour to be her friend. She was respected, admired, trusted and loved by all who knew her. The family greatly appreciated the wonderful care and compassion provided by Dr. Cathryn Smith and the staff on Unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). No visitation by request. A funeral service celebrating Ruth's life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4 in Windsor Baptist Church, 411 King St., Windsor, Rev. Rob Heffernan officiating. Interment will be held in Windsor Forks Community Cemetery. A reception will follow in the church hall.
