SHAW, Thelma Parker Age 97, of Windsor, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, March 3, 2016 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born November 10, 1918 in Bridgetown (Carleton Corner), she was a daughter of the late Rev. Harlan H. and Reta W. (McGowan) Phinney. Thelma became an organist at a very young age, beginning on a pump organ and playing for her father Rev. H.H. Phinney. For a number of years she taught music at Windsor Forks District School. She would often enter her music students in competitions at the Hants County Music Festival. Thelma was a member of American Guild of Organists and was also a honourary member of Royal Conservatory of Organists. She was organist at Windsor United Baptist Church for nearly 70 years and also played for many weddings and funerals over the years. Thelma is survived by daughters, Florence (Weldon) Swinamer, Upper Vaughan; Dorothy (Leroy) Collins, Windsor Forks and Linda (Wayne) Keddy, Truro; and daughter-in-law, Ida Shaw, Windsor Forks; sons, David (Vivian), Windsor Forks; John (Heather), Falmouth and Paul (Trudy), Windsor Forks; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Besides her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Vernon H. Shaw; sons, Gordon and Stephen; grandson, Terry and sister, Dorothy Mae Hare. Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 7. A funeral service celebrating Thelma's life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 in Windsor United Baptist Church, 411 King St., Windsor, Rev. Rob Heffernan officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the church hall. Interment will be held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Falmouth. Webcasting of the service will begin at 1:55 p.m. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Thelma may be made to Palliative Care Unit at Hants Community Hospital, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or a charity of one's choice.
