Obituary of Susan Lynn Shaw

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the death of Susan Lynn “Mama, Sue, Susie” Shaw, 58, of Kentville, formerly of Windsor Forks. She passed away on Thursday, December 7th, 2023, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Windsor on August 23, 1965 she was the daughter of Bette (Caldwell) and the late Arthur Williams.

Susan left high school early to start her family. With great determination, she completed her GED in 2017 and then went on to graduate from Nova Scotia Community College, Kingstec Campus, with a Diploma in Social Services. She was very proud to be a “college graduate”! Susie was committed to her volunteer work at SOUP and was always willing to lend a hand where needed. No matter how sick she was, she would lift others up with her positivity. Spending time with family and friends was very important to her as was time with “her girls”. She shared a special bond with her granddaughter, Maddie. Frenchy shopping, gingerbread house making, mudding in the side-by-side, playing Scrabble with Rhonda, spending time with her grand doggies and eating out were some of her favourite things.

Susie is survived by her mother, Bette Williams; daughter, Ashley and favourite son-in-law, Matt Swinamer; grandchildren, Logan and Madison; former husband and father of her children, David Shaw (Julie); several aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as many special friends.

Besides her father, Arthur Williams, Susie was predeceased by son, Patrick “Dude” and babies in infancy, Ryan and Brittany Shaw.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Adam Clarke, (cardiologist) and Fiona Peacock (RN), for their care during Susan’s battle with heart disease, as well as the nurses at Valley Regional Emergency Department, for their compassion during her final hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no visitation as per family request. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 13, Archdeacon Tom Henderson officiating. A reception will take place immediately afterward in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will follow the reception in Windsor Forks Cemetery, Hwy 14, Windsor Forks. Donations in memory of Susan may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., PO Box 245, Halifax, B3J 3R4, Valley Regional Hospital Foundation, 150 Exhibition Street, Kentville, NS, B4N 5E3 or a charity of one’s choice.
