Obituary of Walter Colin Card

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we the family, announce that Walter, of Centre Burlington, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, just 15 days shy of his 90th birthday. Born in Centre Burlington, on December 14, 1933 he was a son of the late Silbert and Jennie (Dodge) Card.

Walter worked at CKF Inc. for 26 years. He really started to live his life after his retirement. He became even more of an avid outdoorsman loving to spend time hunting, fishing and gardening. He also loved spending time in various Nova Scotia rinks watching many hockey games. Walter will be remembered for always grumbling when the kids would drag home new pets. However, he did form a great admiration for one of the last kitties who had been brought home, Pickles, she held a special place in his heart and when she passed away, Walter was heartbroken.

He is survived by daughters, Janise Card (John Barkhouse), Wanda Card (Grant Burgess), Pam Card (Serge Jaillet) and Terry (Mike) Eldridge; foster sons, Allan and Donnie Fraser; son-in-law, Francis Coffill; grandchildren, Shelley, Kathy, Kenny, Jessica, Zachary, Myles, Cameron, Colby and Dustin; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Laurie and David (Sharon) Card.

Besides his parents, Walter was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Keddy); daughter, Donna Coffill and siblings, Sonny and Mervin Card and Rosie Dooks.

We would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital and the palliative care team. Also, we would like to extend special thanks to Walter’s granddaughter and caregiver, Kathy Laffin for everything that you have done to help.

Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors on Friday, December 1 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 2, Rev.
