Obituary of Joyce Agnes MacInnis

Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with sadness, but with hearts full of love, that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nanny/Ginnis, Joyce Agnes MacInnis of Hantsport, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in Orchard Court Nursing Home, Kentville, with family by her side. Born on May 5, 1936, in the small hamlet of Nicholsville, Mom was daughter of the late Cecil and Vera (Spinney) Palmer, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Living most of her life in Hantsport, she retired from CKF Inc. after 35 years of service. She loved her small town, her job and the many friends that she met there. She was an avid bowler and was still bowling into her early eighties. Mom loved her visits to the family camp in Bishopville, tending to her flowers and plants and all things canine. But most of all, she loved sharing time with her extended Johnson and MacInnis families.

Mom is survived by her daughter, Kim Sanford (Mark), Hantsport; sons, Gary Johnson (Bidy) and Wayne Johnson (Cindy), all of Hantsport; Peter MacInnis (Krista), Markham, ON and Dwight MacInnis (Monique), Cold Lake, AB; grandchildren, Ben Johnson (Bobby Jo), Andrew Johnson (Stephanie), Shawn Johnson (Georgia), Kristen Johnson (Alain), Taryn Lysachok (Darrin), Steven Sanford (Kim), Jill Sanford Balsor (Rodney), Tyler MacInnis, Austin MacInnis, Ethan MacInnis (Savannah); 16 great-grandchildren. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Jean Doucet (Joe) and Linda MacInnis; brother-in-law, David MacInnis (Chalene).

Besides her parents and step-mother, Marjorie (Bentley) Palmer, Mom was predeceased by her husband, Leonard MacInnis; brother-in-law, Ronnie MacInnis (Faye); brother, Gerald Palmer and her dear sister, Alfretta Morse (Lawrence), with whom she shared a very special bond.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Orchard Court for the compassion and care provided during mom’s stay. Also, a special thank you to Linda Theriault and Pam Leopold, for the kindness and care that they provided in helping Mom stay in her own home for as long as she did.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 12 at 11:00 AM, Rev. Penny Nelson officiating. A reception will follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. There will be a private family interment at Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport. Family flowers only.
