I wish to express my sincere condolences to the family of Arnold Robertson. I would often see Arnold with son Dave at the post office in town. Arnold didn't seem to be much of a talker until you got to know him a little. By then it was easier to get him and Dave going on some topic or other. Dave had a good sense of humour and Arnold would quietly smile until he was ready to go, or to jump into the conversation. They could be seen often driving Avon Street in their burgundy-coloured van.
I was amazed when I learned that they were both active marathon runners from a way back. Arnold, eventually slowed down and Dave continued running (and still does).
Arnold will be sadly missed. To Dave. Allen and Ann Marie may I offer once more my condolences on the loss of your father and to all family members.
Blessing to Arnold on a life well-lived.

I was saddened to hear of Arnold’s passing. He was a valued participant at Run Nova Scotia races since the early 1980s. He will never be forgotten.

I have fond memories of Arnold. He was in my first race in Hantsport in 1955. He was an inspiration to me then and has been ever since. A legend in the Maritime running circuit. You have crossed the finish line for the last time. Rest in peace Arnold.

To David and Arnold's family:
I have known Arnold for about 80 years, including his running in the first race in memory of my father, which I watched. I have since watched him run many, many times in Hantsport and elsewhere, and have even ran in races with him for a short time in the late 1970s. I enjoyed his typical fast starts that put him with the race leaders for 500 yards or so, and his sprint to the finish line to the cheering of his many fans.
I appreciated Arnold's years-long, quiet and respectful, efforts to keep the races in Hantsport going, and was thrilled with the renaming of the Two-Mile Race in his honor. His sportsmanship, dignified manners, and long career made him a favorite among his fellow competitors.
His presence in races will be missed, especially in his hometown.
Consequently, I am very disappointed that my wife and I will not be able to attend his funeral to day because I have developed a head cold over the past 24 hour.
Our condolences to David and others in Arnold's family for their personal loss of this remarkable man.

I have fond memories of Arnold. I ran against him when I was only 15 years old. It has been my pleasure to announce his name at the finish line at our Canada Day races for the past fifteen or so years. What a remarkable man. He completed the two mile race last year using his walker. His presence on July 1st will be greatly missed. I look forward this year to saying a few words of tribute about Arnold and his former running companions Les and Wayne Beazley.

I am sure that my late wife Joan would want to share in my expression of condolences to David, Allen and all of Arnold's family and friends. We always enjoyed seeing him and David at the various RNS races over a period of some 20 years and teasing each other as well as inquiring about our interests and activities beyond running. As Arnold toyed with his 80s, he and Joan would often "duke it out" to try to stay ahead of each other at the finish line. And then there were the Hurtin' Buckos Christmas AGMs/fun runs/pot luck meals together than gave occasion for more merriment and story telling
We admired Arnold not just for his running accomplishments but for the measure of man he was: interested in others, supporting worthy causes, keen to attend to his hobbies, friends and family. He was a wonderful role model for living a healthy, happy lifestyle.

I met Arnold when I began working at Keyes Fibre in '73 and learned then of his love of running. He inspired me to run the 6 mile in '75 or ;76 and I have run it and the 2 mile many , many times. Also 3 of my 4 children have run the 6 mile and the 2 mile as well as my wife Lorraine. Sesch won the u-17 division , 2 mile in '93 and '95 receiving our first of Arnold's original wood turned trophies of which we have 4....my son Jacob, daughter Jasmine and wife all received one over the years. I once mentioned to Arnold that I was never fast enough to win one.....he later presented me with a candle holder he had turned while grinning his well known grin. The trophies have gotten beaten up a bit over the years and will be restored as they are true treasures of my family. Arnold and his mischievous wife Phyllis(who always teased me about cutting my hair) had become treasured friends of my whole family and we all miss them dearly.

When I was around 15 years old, I stayed at uncle Arnold's home for a few days and helped pick cucumbers with my cousins Allen & David at their farm. It was a fun visit and aunt Phyllis fed us well. xoxo
