Obituary of Victor Ivan Bobbitt
Age 88, of St. Croix, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2026, after a brief illness. Born in Halifax on April 13, 1938, he was a son of the late Ivan and Helena (Doyle) Bobbitt.
Victor spent his entire career at HMC Dockyard, beginning in 1957 as an apprentice in the Plate and Boiler Shop. A Loftsman by trade, he was one of only two men qualified at the time to make modifications to submarine hatches. He took great satisfaction in his work, though he joked that he did not want that too widely known in case they stopped paying him. In 1991, he retired as shop foreman from the Plate and Boiler Shop where he began, after 34 years of service.
Victor had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to laugh right up until his final days. He cherished time with friends while hunting, fishing and playing cards. Above all else, he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to tease them.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia (Barker); daughters, Judith, Linda and Virginia; grandchildren, Grant and Nicholas Sanford, Alexander Smith and Emma McNeil; great-granddaughter, Alexa Sanford and his sister, Faye Nicholson.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Wallace, Raymond, Albert, Terry and John; sister, Joan Perry and his son-in-law, Martin McNeil.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). At Victor’s request, there will be no memorial service.
