Obituary of Galina Georgina Halden

Please share a memory of Galina to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Galina Georgina Halden on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Born on August 22, 1934, in Leningrad, Russia she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Younanoff.

Galina is survived by her sons, Hubert and Eric; daughter, Sharon Simon (Keith); grandchildren, Derek (Michelle), Kailee (Rob), Ashely and Chelsea (Sean); great-grandchildren, Chloe, Grace, Cameron, Brycen, Lucas and Layla; numerous nieces, nephews, in laws and many, many good friends.

Besides her parents, Galina was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rene.

Galina was an Operating Room Nurse and had a heart bursting with kindness. Always the comfort of others came before her own. Even the seagulls in the winter knew her kindness as she would feed them out of pity for the harsh winters, they endured. The kindness was tempered with a fierce loyalty and protectiveness of those she loved. To wrong one of her loved ones would result in a sharp tongue and maybe a shame on the recipient.

She was an exceptional example a very good and selfless person. She was a valued member of St. Luke’s United Church, in Donkin Cape Breton, she supported and helped war brides in any way she could and loved animals very much.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Details regarding a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
