Obituary of James Arthur Paul Dempsey

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that the family announces the passing of James Arthur Paul “Jim” Dempsey, age 74, of Ellershouse, who peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 8, 2026, surrounded by his family in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. He was the son of Doreen (Hartnett) and the late Jeremiah “Jerry” Dempsey.

Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness and deep devotion to his family. His greatest joy in life was time spent with those he loved most.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Andrea (Baker), the love of his life and partner through all of life’s journeys. He was a proud and loving father to Timothy, Three Mile Plains; Terryl (Jean-Marc), West Chezzetcook and Tyler (Jess), Bedford; a devoted grandfather to Mylee, Lucas, Lindsie, Tristan, Ella-May, Elleana and Elisha (Junior), each of whom held a special place in his heart. Jim is also survived by his loving mother, Doreen, White Hills; sisters, Romain, Herring Cove and Jill (Graeme), Spryfield; as well as several nephews, especially his favourite nephew, Jeremiah; along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jim held a strong testimony of his faith. He loved the scriptures and when reading passages from the Book of Mormon, he would often say “Wow!” five times to express how impressive and powerful the words were.

He worked for many years in the automotive parts industry, where he was known for his knowledge, dedication and the respect he earned from colleagues and customers alike.

Jim loved music, especially The Beatles’ song, “In My Life”, which reflected how deeply he cherished the people closest to him.

Though his family mourns his passing, they take comfort in faith, memories shared and the knowledge that love continues beyond this life.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A Celebration of Life to honour and remember Jim’s remarkable life will be held 2-5 p.m., Saturday, February 21, in the Ellershouse Community Hall, 429 Ellershouse Road, Ellershouse. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring. Messages may be sent to the family by visiting: www.demontfamilyfuneralhome.ca, open the obituary and click on the condolence tab.
