Obituary of Rene Hubert Simon Halden

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rene Hubert Simon Halden, of Three Mile Plains, formerly of Donkin, Cape Breton, on Thursday January 22, 2026, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on October 3, 1933, in Calcutta, India. Rene was the only child of the late Harold and Kathleen (Tocher) Halden.

Rene will be remembered by his loving wife of 65 years, Galina; sons, Hubert and Eric; daughter, Sharon Simon Halden (Keith); grandchildren, Derek (Michelle), Kailee (Rob), Ashely and Chelsea (Sean), great-grandchildren, Chloe, Grace, Cameron, Brycen, Lucas and Layla; numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and many, many good friends.

Rene was well known for his brilliance, kindness, being practical, meticulous and honorable. He was known for being a man you could count on and go to when you needed a hand. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and has left a legacy behind of good men.

Rene loved the outdoors, being active and exercising even in his 90’s. He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed fishing the Margaree River hooking salmon. He loved keeping up with the latest news and politics but never hesitated to give you his opinion on the subject which was part of his charm.

Rene learned how to weld and made it a career travelling all over the world. He never did anything sub-par, he perfected anything he did and that is how he became a welding teacher. He never thought he was good enough to become a teacher but that was another part of his charm…modesty.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). Details regarding a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
