We’d like to convey our condolences … as children in the late-1960s and early 1970s, myself (David) and my brother Michael recall childhood visits to the Halden home in Donkin … our late parents Tom (1934-2010) and Mary (1936-2025), who just passed away in December, were friends with Rene and Galia … of course, Hughie and Eric and Sharon were kids, too … long ago memories … RIP

While I am saddened by Rene's death, that feeling is surpassed by my strong memories of how wise and good were his contributions to our world. I was acquainted with him in Donkin, and was one of the numerous people who missed Rene and Galina when they moved from our area. May God be exceedingly kind to Galina at this time and evermore.

Rene was a truly wonderful person. Growing up he always welcomed me into his home and treated me like one of his own kids. He was patient and kind. He broadened my small world teaching me about hunting & fishing. I have many fond memories of those years bouncing around in the back of the old Land Rover. To say he was like a second father to me would be accurate. May he rest in peace.

When I met Renee over 25 years ago with Eric, we had a pleasant Sunday dinner and drink. He took me over his land on the back of his three wheeler. On that visit., the RCMP had left Nova Scotia and TRUDEAU had passed away.!!
