Obituary of Dana Victor Taylor

Please share a memory of Dana to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Dana Victor Taylor, age 60, of Currys Corner, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born on December 18, 1965, in Windsor, he was the youngest of three children born to the late Victor and Eva (Burgess) Taylor.

Dana was a hard worker all his life taking much pride in not just finishing a job but doing it to the best of his ability. During his young working life, he had several jobs including being a driver for Midland Transport and PCW work. However, for most of his adult working life he was employed with AVRCE as a very dedicated and well-respected school custodian. Dana worked at several different schools during the early years, but it would be Avon View High School in Windsor where he would spend over 20 years. While there he would not just care for the property and physical building but because of his kind and caring manner he would also earn the respect of and develop many friendships with both staff and students alike within its walls.

Dana lived most of his life in the Windsor area and when not working he could often be found at the Dill Pumpkin Farm. He was a family friend and spent many years helping on the farm and played an important roll in both the Giant Pumpkin Weigh Offs and Windsor’s Giant Pumpkin Races over the years. Dana was a devoted Toronto Maple Leaf fan all his life and it was at a Long Pond Classic held on the Dill property that he not only got to meet his all-time favourite player, Darrell Sitler but had the privilege of being his driver while there. Before leaving, Sittler traded hats with Dana and that became a story told for many years.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed boating. He loved cottage life with his young family at their camp on Zwicker Lake, where many treasured memories were made for three generations of Taylors.

Trips to Yellowknife visiting his brother Dean, his niece, Tobi, his nephew, Cory and their families would become highlights of his life. These visits allowed him the opportunity to experience firsthand the world class fishing, boating and camping on Great Slave Lake. He could often be found enjoying backyard campfires back home with his grandkids where not only marshmallows were shared but also many of his great fishing stories.

While being a loyal friend to many and a devoted brother to his siblings the real treasures in his life were his three children and his grandchildren and that love was returned in kind. Just a funny look from Grampie, or the prospect of a “lunchbox treat” when he got home from work could always light up their faces.

Dana is survived by his daughters, Brooke (Kevin Upshaw), Currys Corner and Reese (Kody Dahr), Windsor; son, Joel, Mt. Denson; his grandchildren, Andre and Amari Upshaw, Summer and Nathan Dahr and Baby Girl Upshaw due in February; brother, Dean Taylor (Donna) Borden, PEI; sister, Darlene Taylor, Windsor; niece, Tobi Dusome, Yellowknife; nephew, Cory Taylor (Rosie), Yellowknife; several great nieces and nephews; the mother of his children, Pamela Taylor as well as her mother, Joan Brown.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his sister-in-law, Susan Burke.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Anthony and Stephanie Lochart and to all who reached out in kindness, visited or sent messages to Dana during his illness. We would also like to thank Dana's AVHS family of coworkers, the Red Cross, the staffs of both the 6th floor, Infirmary, QEII and Unit 200 at Hants Community Hospital, Dr. Cathryn Smith and Dr. Susan Cutler. Special thanks for the excellent care Dana was given while at home by the RN’s and CCA’s of the VON and Continuing Care. Finally, to our special angels, Amber Phillips, Shanda Smith and their Palliative Care Team, who guided us through Dana's journey with such patience, knowledge, compassion and kindness we give our heartfelt thanks and gratitude.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Dana’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private family graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery at a later date.
