Obituary of Alfred Walter States

It is with broken hearts, that we the family, announce the passing of Alfred Walter States, of New Minas, Kings Co., on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with his wife by his side, in Great Village at the age of 70. Born on June 5, 1955 in Windsor, Hants Co., he was a son of the late Laurie and Muriel “Della” (Hamilton) States.

Alfred worked for 38 years at the "Plant" (Oxford Frozen Foods) in Canning where he made many lifelong friendships along the way. He spent 50 years of marriage with the one true love of his life and never looked back.

Alfie loved road trips with his wife to see his children and fishing with family. He met many wonderful friends when he moved to New Minas. Anyone who met him fell in love with him and his quick wit and fun personality. Alfred was a simple but humble man.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine (Frank); children, Jason (Michelle); Hantsport; Ashley (Ardy) Willins, Upper Loch Lomond, NB; grandchildren, Christian, Alexis, Dominik, Aaliyah and Moisha; and he was going to be a great-grandfather for the first time in March. He is also survived by siblings, Charlie (Donna), Sackville; Glenda (Edward), Mount Denson; Michael, Windsor; Paulette (Derek), New Minas; Willard "Hawk Eye" (Charlotte), Kentville; William "Duke", Windsor; Sherry, New Minas and Crystal (Kim), Vaughan; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Besides his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his daughter, Tara Lee (States) Arenburg; siblings, Laurie Jr, Brenda, Bobby, Paul and Bradford in infancy; and niece, Melissa.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A funeral service will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 10 in the funeral home chapel, Celebrant Helen Lindsay officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Interment will be held at a later date in Mount Denson Community Cemetery.
