Obituary of Paul Thane Long
Age 78, of Ardoise, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025 in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Paul was born on October 14, 1947, in Halifax, to the late Wylie and Edwina (Baltzer) Long.
Paul grew up in Halifax but spent the majority of his life in Ardoise. His early career began with operating several service stations in HRM before he spent most of his working years as a shielding technician on high security military doors, until his retirement. Outside of work, he was a proud member of the Masons for 25 years, earning the title of “Worshipful Master”.
On February 28, 1970, Paul married the love of his life, Sandra Alice Dann and together they built a beautiful life filled with love. They have a son, Graham (Stephanie), who was Paul's best friend. Paul and Graham shared a special bond and Graham will forever remember Paul as the best dad he could have ever asked for. Paul also held a special place in his heart for his daughter-in-law, Stephanie, whom he loved dearly.
Paul loved the outdoors - fishing, snowmobiling, spending time in the woods and in his later years, hunting with Michael. He also had a passion for cars, enjoyed all genres of music and loved following sporting events with Graham.
Paul is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Graham (Stephanie); grand-doggers, Finley and Louie; sister-in-law, Gloria Hawkes (Jim); brother-in-law, Walter Dann (Sharon); sister-in-law, Lois Long; nieces, Cher Lynch (Rick), Lori Hawkes Ulrich (Steve) and Carol Conrad (Norm); nephews, Walter Dann Jr. (Amanda), Gordie Long (Linda) and Stephen Long (Susan); as well as, many grand-nieces and nephews, great-grand-nieces and nephews. Paul is further survived by neighbors, who have been like family for more than 30 years, Donald Lawrence (Laurie), Michael (Shanna) and Michael’s children, Lucie and Benjamin, Beth (Jeremy).
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his in-laws, Walter and Annie Dann; brothers, Gordon and Murray Long (Betty).
The family would like to thank the 7A, VG Palliative Care Unit for their exceptional care and compassion during this difficult time.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private celebration of life for friends and family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6; your local SPCA or a charity of one’s choice.
