Obituary of Freda Irene Smith
It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Freda Irene Smith, who, surrounded by family, left us peacefully on November 1, 2025 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, at the age of 89. She was born in Middleton on January 5, 1936, to the late Archibald and Florence (Baker) MaGee.
She was a pillar of strength, humour and love to all who knew her. Freda dedicated 25 years of hard work to CKF — and in all those years, she never missed a single day. Her strong work ethic, quick wit and loyalty made her not only a valued coworker but also a cherished friend to many. Her greatest joy was her family. Freda loved doing puzzle fill-ins, UNO, playing TV Bingo and attending local jams to listen to old country music. Freda poured her heart into raising her family with warmth, patience and laughter. She will be remembered for her infectious sense of humor, her generous spirit and her unwavering devotion to those she loved most. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all whose lives she touched.
She was the proud mother of eight children, Marlene (Stephen) Hebb, Walter (Wendy) Smith, Karleen (Larry) Zwicker, Sandra (Bill) Faulkner, Mike Smith, Fred (Rhonda) Smith, Shawn (Darlene) Smith and Donna (Daryl Siteman) Boutilier; and is survived by her sister, Nadine (Jim) Burbidge. She was a loving grandmother to 15 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy and pride into her life.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lamont “Buster”; brother, Gerald; half-brother, Blake; sister, Delma Elliott and half-sister, Vivian MaGee.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Valley Regional Hospital for their compassionate care and for keeping Freda comfortable in her final days.
