Obituary of Elliott John Daniels

Please share a memory of Elliott to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Today we, to quote Dad, “go quietly along” and say farewell to our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, as one adventure ends and another begins.

Elliott John Daniels, of Windsor Forks, was the first of three children born to Wallace M. and Susie M. (Burns) Daniels, of Windsor Forks, on May 23, 1929 and is the last remaining member of his immediate family.

Instilled with an endless curiosity and wanderlust, Dad was pulled westward at an early age where he glimpsed the world beyond the family farm. During these formative travels he built upon a foundation of skills which carried him through life.

After a career in agriculture back in Windsor Forks, Dad pursued a varied number of business ventures which included helping his wife, Jean grow Daniels Flower Shop. As handy as he was with a wrench or operating a piece of equipment, he was equally adept at building the odd flower arrangement when called upon.

Dad’s love of meeting people and striking up a good conversation led to his involvement in many community organizations over the years such as the West Hants Historical Society and Hants Rural Housing Society to name just two.

But of all the things Dad enjoyed about life, his greatest joy was his family. He taught us the importance of values, love of community and caring for one another. He loved nothing more than having everyone home — whether it was for a holiday, a birthday or just because — the house was always full of laughter and love. He loved each of us equally and unconditionally, sharing his sense of adventure, curiosity and deep love for family that will live on in all of us. Thank You for being you, Dad!

Dad is survived by daughters, Dianne (Wayne), Suzanne and Jennifer (Dave); sons, Gary (Lynette) and Wallace (Lisa); grandchildren, David Hines and Erin (Ian) Hines, Jaclyn (John) Blanchard, Becky (Kristopher) Mailman, Brittany Mailman and Hannah (Thomas) Daniels; as well as four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Blair Brown.

Besides his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Jean (Brown); granddaughter, Megan; sister, Elizabeth (Don) Miller and brother, Kenneth (Leota).

The family wishes to thank Amber and the Palliative Care team for the compassionate services which allowed Dad to remain at home; Leslie MacDonald Harvey and the staff of R & G Infinite Hearts Home Care for their care and love shown to Dad in his final days; The Canadian Red Cross; Dr. Ahmad for attending to Dad’s health and well-being over the years, as well as Darcy who could always elicit a smile and teasing retort when she visited.
