Obituary of Maxine Wallace Stewart
Age 95, of Falmouth, formerly of Windsor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in the Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Maxine was born on September 27, 1930, in Caledonia, Queens County, the youngest daughter of the late Clark and Beulah (Freeman) Murray.
She graduated from Acadia University in 1951 with a degree in Music. A career in banking led her from Halifax to Toronto. After many years in the big city she became reunited with a former classmate. They married, lived in Windsor and enjoyed many years of travel and happy times at the cottage in Sandy Cove. Maxine enjoyed singing in the church choir and participating in a local theatre group.
Maxine is survived by nieces, Marilyn Ray, Penticton, BC; Gloria Gilbert, Osborne Harbour and Susan Calnen, Elmsdale; as well as many nieces and nephews of the next three generations.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Dr. D. Alan Stewart; sisters, Mona Ellis (Bedford) and Edna MacKay (Liverpool); niece, Nanci McLennan (Calgary, AB).
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Windsor Elms Village for their care and understanding during Maxine’s residency.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Maxine’s wishes there will be no service at this time. A private family interment will be held at a later date in Highland Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her parents and sister. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maxine may be made to a local SPCA or Windsor United Church, PO Box 2037, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
