My heart goes out to you, Rae, and your family. Such a loss to you, your family and everyone John knew. He had a sparkle in his eye for life -from his stories of travelling Europe with you Rae ❤️ to playing hard at sports. I have fond memories of conversations with you both of the above and the work he did though out his life. My feeling - John had such a great attitude - one day at time, thankful for each day and to have you Rae by his side, time with his family. Love lives on, memories are forever and in sharing great memories of John the heart is warmed- a hug from him to all present.
I am very thankful to have met John and you, Rae.

We always enjoyed every conversation we had with John. His animated tales of the adventures he and Rae shared during their wayward youth were incredible. His stories about their trip to Morocco aired made our seemed quite boring in comparison. John will be greatly missed by everyone who had the extreme privilege to know him. Our thoughts are with you all.

I had the privilege of being reacquainted with my cousin John in Baddeck while caring for my father. John and Rae came to visit my dad, as he faithfully did over the years. I left Nova Scotia in my late teens so I didn’t get to spend time with John over the years. During our visit, I found John and Rae to be truly beautiful people, so kind hearted towards others. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit, getting a little acquainted with this part of my extended family. My thoughts are with you, Rae and family.

Rae and Family,
Bidy & I were saddened to hear of John's passing. We hold many fond memories of us growing up together in Hantsport. Later in life when we would run into each other, it was always so much fun to catch up. John would greet you with a big smile and a firm handshake, followed by a barrage of questions and stories.
RIP John.

John always loved nicknames for those close to him. Thanks to Marcy and Matthew I received two over the years PJ as Marcy pronounced my name when she was very young. The other was William which Matthew loves to call me and which John did for so many years even when wishing me happy birthdays. My wife Paula didn’t escape that great honor being called Skippy.
The John I got to know over 30 years was light hearted and a story teller to a fault. The stories were endless and grand. I know John always enjoyed reminiscing with me over a story of Matthew and I jumping head first down a large spruce tree in his and Rae’s front yard in Beaverbank in the mid 90’s. The sheer craziness of it, I think is what he always enjoyed about it.
I’ll never be able to look at a Eagle Talon and not think of John with a smile. I was always welcomed in John and Rae’s home and very fortunate to be included in many family events over the years. I loved the man I knew and will miss our chats. Thanks John for being authentic. Love BJ, Paula and the boys James, Henry and Thomas

Rae, I bumped into Dougie today at the gym and he told me John passed away on Saturday. I'm sending you and your family my sincerest condolences. I'm so glad Stan and I visited you and John at home a while ago. John was in great form and it was wonderful to share old memories and to catch up on what has happened over the past fifty years or so. John was very proud of his lovely family in the best way anyone could be. One of my favourite memories was when John and I were 18 years old working on the gypsum boats. It was 1971, my first trip. John had signed on the trip before. We went to New York City. John and I, fresh out of Hantsport, went on shore-leave together and took the ferry to Manhattan Island. We went into a bar, just like in the movies. The drinking age in New York was only 18 back then, as apposed to 21 in Nova Scotia. Anyway, we sat at the bar and ordered something. Some "grownups" came in. A fight broke out between two guys and it went into the street. It was kind of like being at a dance in Windsor. John and I watched and left shortly after. That's all I remember, but I'm sure we thought it was all pretty cool. He was a good guy.
