Obituary of Herman Earl Whitehead

Age 91, of Dartmouth, passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025 due to pneumonia in the Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth. He was born on October 7, 1933 to the late Lewis and Alice (Mason) Whitehead.

Herman is survived by his children, David “Bo” (Janice) Swindall, Windsor; Alice (Barry) Getson, Whites Lake; Dianne Porter and Margaret Baker, both of Charlottetown, PE; Mary Sleith (Jim), Essex, Ontario/Chester; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel VanTassel, Westfield, NB.

Besides his parents, Herman was predeceased by his spouse, Gladys Swindall; daughter, Carol Langridge; as well as several brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff on 5 West at the Dartmouth General Hospital for the care given to Herman. 

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be a public graveside service held in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King Street, Windsor, on Wednesday, October 8, at 1 p.m., Rev. Jennifer Riley officiating. Please bring a chair and umbrella if required. Donations in memory of Herman may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Road, Box 245 Halifax, NS B3J 3R4.
