Obituary of Lynnette Karen Leighton
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lynnette “Lynn” K. Leighton of Windsor/Hammonds Plains in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax on Thursday, September 18, 2025, where she was surrounded by her loving family. Lynn was born on December 4, 1940 in Windsor to the late Roy and Hazel (Swinamer) Edwards.
Lynn is survived by her loving children, Cheryl, Tina (Brian), Keith (Youri) and Greg; beloved granddaughters, Michaela Walsh, Elise Lynch and Lily Leighton and her special daughter-in-law, Sherri.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her infant brother, Gregory.
Lynn attended Windsor Business School, graduating with top marks in 1960. She worked at A.G. MacDonald’s law office and Doane Raymond Accounting Firm in Windsor until she left work to raise her family. Later in life, she began working as a personal care worker at Dykeland Lodge and eventually left to start her own business, Young at Heart, adaptive clothing for seniors. Lynn was able to combine her entrepreneurial ambitions, compassion and experience and thoroughly enjoyed building her business.
Being the giving and caring person she was, Lynn volunteered extensively, working with Palliative Care, Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentoring elementary school children in reading and knitting numerous hats for babies at the IWK. Her hobbies included reading, watching hockey, playing bingo, genealogy, knitting and quilling. Lynn maintained a lifelong passion for learning which she instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Lynn was an exceptional mother, grandmother and friend. Her kindness and genuine spirit touched all those who had the pleasure of knowing her. She always took the time to make each person feel special. Her fierce determination and wisdom made it feel that we could get through anything. She was the core and strength of our family - she taught us all what it means to love and be loved. Lynn had a fantastic sense of humour. We had so much fun and we will forever cherish the beautiful memories we created.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paige Stevens, Mom’s many specialists and the emergency staff at the Cobequid Medical Centre, Halifax Infirmary and VG Hospital.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317).
