Obituary of William George Benner
Age 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 19, 2025, surrounded by love in Windsor Elms Village, Falmouth. Born in Windsor on January 18, 1936, he was a son of the late Whitman and Margaret (Foster) Benner and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bill is survived by daughter, Tina Crowell (Kevin Hiltz); grandson, Clint (Lori) Crowell; great-grandchildren, Emily (Ritchie Starratt), Nicole and Aaron Sullivan; brother-in-law, Angus (Carol) Harvey; as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mildred “Millie” (Harvey); brothers, Robert and Ronald; son-in-law, Rodd Crowell; brother-in-law, George “Dorby” (Dorothy) Harvey; foster brother-in-law, Blaine Bourgoyne; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Hadd) Smith and Alexa (Charlie) Smith.
Bill loved music, especially old-time fiddle tunes, dancing, gardening and creating his wonderful woodworking crafts that he generously gifted to family and friends over the years. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
The family wish to thank everyone at the Windsor Elms Village for the exceptional love and care given to Bill over the past four years. He made many friends there, each one dear to his heart. Special thanks to Nancy Bezanson, with whom he shared a wonderful friendship and many visits and outings over the years.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a time for remembering Bill will be held on Wednesday, October 1 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Bill will later be laid to rest, with his beloved Millie, at a private interment service at Ste. Croix Cemetery.
