Obituary of Irene Margaret Allen

Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Irene Margaret Allen slipped into eternal sleep on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 after a fantastic run of 96 years. Born on September 15, 1929 in Leminster, Hants Co., she was a daughter of the late Guy Underwood and Maud Lucy (Swinimer) Collicutt and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mum grew up in Leminster until she moved to Windsor for work purposes. It was there she would meet her future husband, George and they wed in 1954. She left the working world in 1960 to become a fulltime mom and manage the home. They moved to a home on Gray St. in Windsor in 1961. Dad never really left there and mom remained in the same home until 2017 when her declining health would no longer permit it. Irene spent a few years at R.E.A.L. Residence until moving to the Windsor Elms Village. COPD continued to take its slow but unrelenting toll on her body, but her mind and wit remained until the end. A good life well-lived and now she is returned to her parents, husband, friends and family members to continue the next stage

Irene is survived by her son, Doug (Nadine) Allen, Edmonton, AB; daughter, Barb (Dale) Singer, Burlington, ON; grandchildren, Erin Allen (Doug Karr), Halifax; Chase Singer, Burlington, ON; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Wylie Atwell and numerous nieces and nephews along with their children and families.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George, in 2005; all seven siblings, Dorothy (Joe) Taylor, Gordon (Sadie) Collicutt, Helena (Bowie) Thorpe, Lawrence (Amy) Collicutt, Maxine (George) Davison, Evelyn (John) Davison and Mabel (Fred) Cochrane; all eleven of George's siblings, Margaret (Clarence) Atwell, Joseph (Ophelia) Allen, Winnifred (Bob) England, Gladys (Henry) Biggs, Fred (Elsie) Allen, Jack (Grace) Allen, Gordon (Marg) Allen, Gerald (Jean) Allen, Richard (Rita) Allen, Sybil (Frank) Gertridge and Sheena Atwell.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Irene's wishes and request, no public service will be held. Interment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Irene may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family by visiting: www.demontfamilyfuneralhome.ca.
