Obituary of Vincent Edwin Howell
HOWELL, Vincent Edwin “Vince”
It is with extremely heavy and sad hearts that we announce the peaceful, unexpected passing of Vincent Edwin Howell, of Three Mile Plains, on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at home in his sleep, at the age of 57. Born on June 13, 1968, in Windsor, he was a son of Alfred “David” and the late Helen Ruth (Prosper) Howell.
Vincent worked on the oil rigs for a while and wanted to be closer to his children so he left that job and became a courier driver, which he absolutely loved. He loved the freedom that he got with his new job. He respected his employers very much and when he was forced to stop because of his strokes, he was devastated.
When Valerie first met Vincent, she thought he was a pretty boy. That nickname stuck with him forever. He will always be her pretty boy.
He loved cats, especially his cat, Prince, who would always sit with him to get belly rubs, right up until Prince's passing. Then Tater came into our lives. She claimed Vincent as her person.
Vince loved his wife, Valerie and his children, Elaine and Adam, with all his heart. He gave them unconditional love and it made Valerie so happy to see the love he had for them all.
He loved watching the birds. He would fill the feeder every morning, just so he, Valerie and Tater could watch the birds. They had bluejay, pigeons, doves and woodpeckers.
He always thought of his aunts Deed and Marge, uncles Steve and Gerald as his blessings. Especially his aunt Deed, who always made him chocolate chip cookies and his aunt Marge, who he loved being near, and who reminded him of his mother.
Vincent is survived by his wife of 33 years, Valerie (Deveau); children, Elaine and Adam; father, A. David; dog, Tater; brothers-in-law, Burton (Marlene) and Clark (Terri) Deveau; aunts, Deed and Marge; uncles, Steve and Gerald; as well as nieces and nephews.
Besides his mother, Vincent is predeceased by paternal grandparents, Edwin and Marjorie Howell; father-in-law, John Maynard; mother-in-law, Linda Anne Deveau and brother-in-law, Franklin Junior Saulnier.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family service will be held in the coming days to commemorate Vince’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vince may be made to Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, 5657 Spring Garden Rd., Box 245, Halifax, NS B3J 3R4 or Diabetes Canada, 1000-170 University Avenue, Toronto, ON M5H 3B3. Eulogy for Vincent Howell, written by Marlene Deveau (sister-in-law)
We gather here today to honour and celebrate the life of Vincent Howell - a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished son, a caring brother-in-law, who touched all of our lives in unforgettable ways.
To his wife Valerie, he was her “pretty boy". That nickname, spoken with affection, captured not just his appearance but the love, closeness and joy they shared together.
As a father, Vincent's devotion to Elaine and Adam was constant. He loved his children deeply and he showed them that love every single day. They were his pride and joy and everything they did carried in the heart of a father who cared endlessly.
Vincent also shared a special bond with his father, David, who was always there by his side, ready to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. That example of steadfast love and support shaped who Vincent was - a man who gave to others as much as he received and who never let his family doubt how much he loved them.
He found happiness in life's simple pleasures; walking Tater, watching YouTube with his headphones on, teasing and laughing with those he loved. His favourite saying – “It is what it is can't be anything else”, reminded us of his calm spirit, his ability to accept life as it came and his quiet strength.
Burt and I will never forget one of our last memories with him, during a visit home last year. I can still hear him saying to Burt, “I am going for some happy time. You can join me if you like”. Then, of course, the teasing that followed - his way of bringing laughter and warmth into every moment.
Vincent loved all his family dearly and the love he showed us will never be forgotten. Though our hearts are heavy, we know the memories we have of him will never fade, they will remain with us always -etched not just in our minds, but carried forever in our hearts.
Vincent will live on in the love he gave, the laughter he shared and the strength he passed on to each of us.
Rest in peace our dear husband, father, son and brother, until we meet again. It’s never goodbye, but until we meet you again.
