Obituary of Donald George Miller

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald George Miller on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in the Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII, Halifax at the age of 85. He was born in Halifax, on June 29, 1940, to the late Willis and Delina (McCulloch) Miller. Donald was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and his passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Donald was a quiet but astute man, a silly jokester and a family man. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, always their number one fan. He and Tim shared a mutual interest in the army, he supported Tami’s love of horses and shared the love of sports with Todd. That support carried on with his grandchildren, watching Sarah and Savannah compete in horse shows and cheering on Ryan and Kellan at their hockey games. He was an avid fan of boxing, you could always count on seeing a match on his tv. He served in the Canadian Army with the Regiment of the Canadian Guards for 10 years, which took him to Germany and Cyprus. Afterwards he worked for the NS Department of Highways in the area office of Windsor and later as an area foreman for 20 years. His final career venture was as owner and operator of the DG Miller Bussing Service for 20 years, which took him all over the Maritimes through his work with APSEA. He and Diane enjoyed spending time and building connections with the kids they drove and their families, while also getting to some special time with one another.

Donald is survived by his children, Timothy (Joane Poirier), Trenton, ON; Tamara “Tami”, Martock and Stephen “Todd”, Windsor; sister, Sharon Maynard, Windsor Forks;  grandchildren, Stephanie Miller (Devon), Windsor; Sarah Miller-Whittall, Oakville, ON; Isabelle Payan (Paul), Trenton, ON and Stephane Vargas (Samantha), Sherwood Park, AB; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Savannah, Kellan, Vienna, Sarina, Ava and Daniel; great-great granddaughter, Mia; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that all held a very special place in his heart.

He is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean “Diane” Miller; grandson, Jason Miller; sister, Sandy Jones and brother, Terry Miller.

A heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Hants Community Hospital and QEII who cared for Donald during his final days.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). In accordance with Donald’s wishes no service will be held.
