Hi Margie.
Deepest sympathy to you and your family. We spent a lot of time together when I lived in Windsor. Doug was fun, a story teller, and always made me feel welcome. I may have struggled sometimes to remember all the nicknames he had for people. Doug was smart, and could build anything, and let you know when he had to
Correct someone else’s work. lol. He was one of a kind and I appreciate knowing him.

From all our family to yours we are so very sorry at the enormous loss you are all dealing with. Doug was a larger than life person and your very well written obituary described him perfectly. Our house was never painted as well as when Doug did it and it lasted so… long.
May all the wonderful memories hold your hearts intact as it feels like it wants to shatter and know he will always be there with you. Hugs to you all.

Katie, Sarah, Margie and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. Spending time at the Ormon house was a bright light for me growing up in Windsor. Doug was one of a kind and always made me feel welcome. His obituary captured the way I remember him so well. His presence filled every room, and his absence will leave a hole not only in the lives of his family but within the whole community that loved him. May you find comfort in the many stories, sayings, laughter, and memories he leaves behind, and may his spirit continue to shine through all who had the privilege of knowing him. You are all in my thoughts during this difficult time.

No words or actions can make this hard time easier, Doug was a great man in all aspects of his life, I have had the pleasure of knowing Doug and his beautiful family for many years, , when he would see me he would always make a smart remark about my freckles, my hair colour or my height, to the point I was expecting it. He will be missed by many,
The love for Marg, his girls and his grandchildren was evident with our conversations that we would have. Thinking of you all at this sad time.

Margie, Sarah, Katie, and families - you have lost the most important person in your life. Now you enter a new phase of your lives. For us, we have lost a friend.
Everyone knew Doug. Seriously everyone. And most of those people liked him. They noticed him for his outgoing behaviour, and yes, he was often loud, but more than anything, they knew he would help them, no matter what they asked. Sometimes it was just to talk with them, to make them laugh. Other times it was to use his building expertise. I am one of those people. As I struggled for years to repair and revitalize a 150 year old house, things kept going wrong. And because he was my brother-in-law’s best buddy, I knew who to call. He helped me, time and time again. With shingling, painting, building, plastering, and everything else you could imagine. He always knew best, even when occasionally his finished product looked nothing like I asked him to build. But he did every job I asked him to do, the most recent was painting my house three years ago. My mother loved him and as fearful as she was, she had no worries about being alone with him at home. She baked his favourite gum drop cake and more for Christmas. I am only one of the people in this town, this municipality, this community, who depended on his kindness when I needed help. And he always helped. The thing about someone who is as giving as Doug was, is that you expect he will be there forever. That he was invincible. Unfortunately, we all know the reality about that. He was as vulnerable as the rest of us. And now we are all a little more vulnerable without him to show us how something is done. We have all learned a lot from Doug. Unfortunately, as in my case, I never learned how to do the work he did for me. But I did learn about kindness and commitment - and about lifting the spirits of others.
The one thing Doug always made sure of is to know when to say no. If requests for his help would interfere with his time with his family, then family came first. For that he deserves utmost respect. His greatest blessing during his time on earth was those four beautiful grandchildren. They gave him the best last years of his life. And he will remain the best memory in theirs.
