Obituary of Larry Curtis Coldwell

Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Age 83, of Coldbrook, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 13, 2025 in the Valley Hospice, Kentville. He was born in Wolfville on August 22, 1941 to the late Neil and Hilda (Jordan) Coldwell.

Larry grew up in the beautiful Gaspereau Valley outside of Wolfville and, once old enough, enlisted in the Canadian military, where he worked as a computer operator in CFB Bordon in Ontario for a few years until his release. Larry then took on his second career as an employee of Canada Post in Moncton. Following that he relocated to Amherst and eventually retired from the Kentville location. While living in Amherst, Larry was very active including being on the Nova Scotia Post Office curling team and competing nationally. He also became active with the Amherst Air Cadet Corp and ended up joining the military reserves and getting his commission as an officer in the military before being released a second time as a lieutenant a few years later.

Larry finally retired from everything he did in the Gaspereau Valley where it all started and eventually moved to Coldbrook where he and his wife, Irene lived out their remaining years. He remained active after retiring where he continued to dabble in small woodworking projects to stay active as well as playing cards on Tuesdays and Saturdays with his many friends. In Larry's final days he had many visitors including his two sons and their families as well as his great-granddaughter, Sophia, who he was delighted to meet for the first time.

Larry is survived by his children, Tim (Denise) and Tony (Charlene); grandchildren, Keenan, Makayla and Michelle; and great-grandchild, Sophia.

Larry was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Cress), who passed away in March of 2023.

Larry's family would like to thank all the folks and staff of Valley Regional Hospital and Valley Hospice for taking excellent care of Larry during his lengthy stay and a special thanks to Allan and Rowena Hines for being the best neighbours anyone could ever ask for.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). There will be no memorial service at Larry’s request.
