Obituary of Celene Lindsie Baker
If you ever stopped by for “five minutes”, you stayed for supper and more than likely the night. That was Momma, denim jeans, collar up, makeup on, Caesars for lunch, five courses for dinner and the spare bedroom made up ever so inviting, next to impossible to say no to such a woman. On Wednesday, August 6, 2025, she packed up for her next wild adventure. She was 72.
Born May 11, 1953, Ceenie grew up the oldest of six kids and quickly earned the title of her father’s “first born boy”. Fearless and endlessly curious, she became a hunter, trapper, guide and fisherman whose happiest days were spent deep in the wild. The Owl River in Alberta and The River in Nova Scotia weren’t just places, they were part of her.
She once spent two months living in an outfitter’s tent on the side of Edward’s Lake, deep in the Boreal Forest, with her tiny 2lb dog, Tiny Tim and a pet (term used loosely) weasel who kept the mice in check. That same trip she finally out smarted the elusive white wolf. A champion for the outdoors, she gave countless volunteer hours to Ducks Unlimited and the Alberta Trappers Association.
Momma believed in showing up, always ready and always loyal. She would feed you until you couldn’t move, keep your glass full until you couldn’t stand and make sure you had a bed for the night whether you planned to or not. She lived by her father’s words “God hates a coward” and never once backed down from a challenge.
She leaves behind her children, Devin Sheehy and Alex Sheehy (AlexandREA!! if I was about to learn something new); siblings, Wendy “Poo” Frizzell, Andrea Dempsey and the notorious Chris Baker; grandchildren, Courtney, Chelsea, Chloe, Jaxx and Crete; great-granddaughter, Dealia; as well as her best friend, her care provider, her everything, Teresa Miles “see that girl there, I love her”. She is also survived by many in-laws and out-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends who loved her dearly, from the East Coast to the West Coast and back again.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lindsie and Pearl (Hubley) Baker; sister, Kristie and brother, Tim.
Celene spent her last two years at the Windsor Elms Village in Falmouth. It’s here that she truly tested the security measures they had in place, from trying to scale fences to sneaking out of the Meadowview Garden. It’s also there that she touched so many hearts, gently touching your faces and telling you she loved you. To you all there, THANK YOU for what you do every day and know that her “stuffy” is with her always.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A living garden will be created at The River and open to all who wish to contribute to it in her honour. The family will share details at a later date.
