Obituary of John Wayne Lunn
Age 74, of Upper Vaughan, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, in the VG Site, QEII Halifax Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 11, 1951, in Windsor, he was a son of the late Ralph and Helen (Begin) Lunn.
Johnny dedicated much of his early career to life on the road as an owner-operator long-haul truck driver, working with Maritime Ontario and Speedway, where he was known by his handle, "Hippie". Following his trucking years, he worked for various construction companies in the summer and the Department of Transportation in the winter, before going full time at DOT until his retirement in 2019.
Johnny’s happiest moments were those spent surrounded by loved ones - whether camping with family, hunting and fishing with friends in Newfoundland, having fun with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews or enjoying the company of his pets at home. He also took great pleasure in offering “helpful” feedback on Wendy’s gardening projects or her Christmas decorations, always with a twinkle in his eye. In his retirement, Johnny found joy in simple pleasures, such as mornings spent with the crew at Swinimers, playing cards and catching up with friends and neighbours.
He is survived by his partner, Wendy White, Upper Vaughan; daughter, Faylene (William Langthorne), Ottawa, ON; son, Johnathan, Campbell River, BC; stepchildren, Jennifer (Christian) Gravesen, Wetaskiwin, AB; Brandon Ormon, Windsor; brothers, Robert (Sandra Gates), Windsor Forks; Phillip (Darlene), Windsor Forks; sisters, Betty Peach, Windsor Forks; Barbara, Windsor; Crystal (Wayne Dimock), Falmouth; in-laws, Helen Lunn, Windsor, Bonnie (Donnie) Lively, Upper Rawdon; nephews and nieces, Garth (Beth), Kathy, Sandy (Tia) Peach; Jasper (Kayleigh) and Nicole (Steve) DeMont; step-grandchildren, Nora and Carsen Gravesen, Dawson Ormon and Jeremy Gertridge; great nieces and nephews, Austin, Owen and Danica; Blake and Brynn DeMont, Erica Ross, Cory and Michael (Brittany Higgins) and Nicolas Peach. He had many special cousins, growing up together as if they were siblings.
Besides his parents, Ralph and Helen, he was predeceased by uncle, Richard “Dick” Begin; aunt, Vivian Huntley; brother-in-law, Fred Peach; cousins, Jackie Hood, Richard Begin, Harold “Dewey” Begin, Joanne Begin and Wayne Humphreys; niece, Judy Peach; in-laws, Bert and Gloria Greene.
A special thank you to all who helped Johnny. He was deeply blessed to be part of a close-knit community, surrounded by unwavering love and support from cousins, Robert and Linda Chambers, dear friends, Gerry, Sharon, Dan and many others.
