Obituary of Grant Richard Sanford

Please share a memory of Grant to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our Dad, Grant Richard Sanford, of Centre Burlington, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the age of 87, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. He was the son of the late Raymond and Helen (Shaw) Sanford.

A simple man with a big heart, Dad lived a life full of adventure, love and quiet wisdom.

For 65 years, he shared a deep and abiding love with his wife, Eileen (Hood) – a partnership that stood as a true example of devotion, loyalty and unconditional love to all who knew them. Their bond was one of quiet strength, mutual respect and a lifetime of shared joys and challenges, offering an inspiring legacy of what true love can be. They loved attending many local jam sessions and going out for drives.

Dad was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in nature’s beauty. Whether hunting, four-wheeling, snowmobiling or spending time at his beloved camp, the woods were his sanctuary. He proudly claimed to have been a porcupine trainer – a small nod to his playful spirit and love for the wild. Over the years, he built a life rooted in hard work, beginning at the barite mine, spending time with Nova Scotia Power and later applying his skill and craftmanship as a talented carpenter and glazier. If something needed fixing, Dad was always the family’s trusted handyman.

A gifted athlete, Dad spent many years playing ball and hockey and later took just as much pride – if not more – following his children and grandchildren to many rinks and ball fields as their biggest fan. His quiet support, steady presence and unconditional love were always felt from the stands.

He was a proud father to Bruce (Janice), David (Yvonne), Ricky (Elaine), Tony (Mary), Trish (Tony), Terry (Shelley) and Angie (Paul). His legacy lives on through his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who were the lights of his life and who he deeply loved to tease.

He was predeceased by his beloved grandchildren, Justin, Melissa and Nick, who he now joins in eternal rest.

Dad’s life was rich in the simple, meaningful moments that truly matter: family, faith, hard work, nature and community. His legacy lives on in the many stories told, in the skills he passed down and in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no service. An interment will be held at a later date when his soulmate joins him in eternal rest. To honour Dad, give someone a helping hand, have a coffee and a cookie, or just tell a “Grant” story. Donations in his memory may be made to International Children’s Memorial Place, PO Box 136, Kinkora, PE C0B 1N0 or Canadian Cancer Society, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6.
