Obituary of Rev. Karen Jo-Anne Louise Hunt

Please share a memory of Rev. Karen Jo-Anne Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Karen was born December 10, 1942 in Windsor. She passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor.

Karen leaves behind her husband of 64 years, John David “Dave” Hunt; daughters, Connie Mitchelmore (Kevin), Marilyn Wright (Andrew), Leslie Abbey (Don); along with grandchildren, Andrea Kadatz-Frey (Dean), Michael Moore (Crystal), Jillian Moore (Kyle), Emily Moore, Lane Mitchelmore (Rena) and Sean Mitchelmore (Alyssa); great grandchildren, Macy, Ava, Natalie, Alexander, Lincoln, Hunter,  Avery, Hayden, Jackson and Maxwell; along with a long list of extended family and her brother, Roger Connors (Eileen).

Mom spent her childhood growing up in Avondale and Ellershouse and graduated from West Hants High School. She then married and moved with Dave and her young family to Alberta and spent most of her life and career in western Canada eventually moving back to Nova Scotia in her later years. Karen loved reading and was a lifelong learner. She was an accountant for 25 years and in her early 40’s returned to school and received her Masters of Theology at the age of 54. Mom served at various parishes throughout Northern British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia and became Arch Deacon for the Diocese of Nova Scotia. She also received her diploma in Horticulture in 2008.

Mom always wanted to serve others… whether it was in the kitchen, the garden or the sanctuary. She enriched the lives of everyone she met with her kindness, compassion, integrity and her nurturing spirit. She opened her home to anyone who needed a meal, a place to lay their head or a comforting ear. She was a great listener.

One of her greatest loves, besides her family, was animals…especially her dogs, Murphy, Seamus and Paddy. She thoroughly enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading and the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle that she always did with a pen!

She was predeceased by her birth parents, Edwin and Mabel Connors; brother, Gerald “Jerry” Connors; sisters, Audrey Miller and Phyllis Murphy; foster parents, Maurice and Muriel Murphy and infant granddaughter, Mary Beth Wright.

Mom, as well as her family, loved and appreciated the exceptional care and support she received over the last seven years from the compassionate staff at Dykeland Lodge.

Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 29, Rev.
