Obituary of LaVerne Elsie Clayton
Age 98, of Mayflower Meadows, Windsor, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025. She was born on February 3, 1927 in Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co. and was a daughter of the late Harry and Elmeda (Tufts) Wile.
As a premature baby born at home, mom was kept warm and alive on the oven door of her mom and dad’s old wood stove. She grew up in a large, loving family. As a young woman she worked at the candy factory in Hantsport and then the Eatons store in downtown Halifax. She eventually took a hairdressing course and worked for a brief time as a hairdresser.
Mom lived for her family. She always looked forward to the many celebrations held over the years, enjoying the food, music and the company of those she cherished. Mom spent many of her summers at the cottage on Lake Pleasant cruising on the lake with Phil on his hand-crafted pontoon boat. She was always up for a good game of cards and still managed to win, even when she suffered with dementia in her later years! Her appreciation of life and its beauty always shone through and she showed it with her humour and kindness towards others.
Mom is survived by sons, Reigh (Judy), Rick (Jeanne) and Greg (Christine); daughter, Peggy (Victor); grandchildren, Jeremy, Becky, Alysa, Teagan and Ellis; five great grandchildren; sister, Emily; brother, Berlyn (Joanne) and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Phillip; sisters, Florence, Lily, Ermie, Hilda and Shirley.
Mom spent her last five and a half years at the Mayflower Meadows (formerly Haliburton Place) where she was treated with love, respect and lots of patience. We will always be grateful.
