





Obituary of Ethel Edna Payzant
It is with broken hearts we the family of Ethel Edna (Sanford) Payzant, born August 25, 1939, must say so long, see ya later, tootaloo to our mother, aunt, nanny, grandma, sister-in-law and friend. She passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Ethel was the daughter of the late Theodore Allen and Nina Mildred (Sibley) Sanford.
Ethel is survived by her son, Randy (Mel) Payzant; granddaughter, Nicole and great grandson, Jaden; granddaughter, Sarah (Dustin) Payzant-Biggs; great grandson, Michael; step-daughter, Keeley (Wesley) Hiltz; step-great grandchildren, Dawson, Brooklyn and Owen; step grandson, Ethan (Shelby) Hiltz; daughters, Darlene (Darryl) Payzant Rourke; granddaughter, Dallas Rourke; grandson, Dakota (Emma) Rourke; Linda (Jeffrey) Parker; grandsons, Makail (Maria), Liam (Clare) and Colin (Bailey); granddaughter, Rachel Lake; great grandchildren, Mariah and Riley Maguire, Emilie and Alyssa Healey; son-in-law, Carl Lyons and children, Shawna and Jessie and families; great-great grandson, Dylan Maguire; special sisters-in-law, Frances Parks, Mary Leopold, Doreen Payzant, Barb Miller and Betty Schofield; brother-in-law, Alfred Payzant; lifelong friends, Hazel (Jim) Chambers and Marie Allen; cousin, Dorothy Hatchard; as well as many other extended family members.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Joel Payzant; daughter, Carolyn Lyons; grandsons, Marshall and Jerry Lake; brother, Wilfred (Sheila) Sibley; sister, Ada Hughes; as well as many other extended family members.
Mother started work at the young age of 15 working at Kings Edgehill School. At the age of 21 she married Joey (July 30, 1960) and the following year started their family. Mother worked on the farm, picking and bagging apples for sale in the grocery stores. She donated her time fundraising for the Red Cross and could also be seen at the Election Polls.
To describe Ethel, many comments are proud kind soul, wonderful lady, great neighbour, loyal friend, kind and a heart of gold, biggest heart, lovely, always smiling, sweet and good to us kids in the past. For us, mother amazed us with her strength after dad passed away, she has been the rock and glue that holds this family together. We will miss you, until we meet again, we all love you so very much, may you rest in peace.
Arrangements have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family will receive visitors from 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, May 7. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 8 in the funeral home chapel, Celebrant Helen Lindsay officiating. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home’s Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial will be held in Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Rd., Falmouth. Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to Canadian Red Cross, Atlantic Canada, PO Box 39, Saint John, NB E2L 3X3 or charity of one’s choice.
